Blogging our adventures (1)

The online adventure project is going strong.

We now have nine 26 scenes in five 10 or more locations spread over four five blogs, Lunching on Lamias, ArmChairGeneral, Nine Worlds, Ten Thousand Things, Warpstone Flux and the Expanse. It all starts here.

This is a quick summary for present and future participants of what's happening at the moment.

If you want to get involved, it's easy - all you need to know to get going is at the bottom of this post.

The starting point is the oak and the two routes out so far have taken us up into the canopy and down into a clearing. The canopy has options undeveloped, and there are some notes here it might be worth considering if you want to use them. Weird goings on too both at and under the tree, and lots of potential for what these might be.

Down in the clearing, things are interesting too, if potentially problematic for the development of the narrative. One choice leads to a strange change in the character and this may need to be dealt with before we go too much further along. Is the change permanent? If not, how will we contain it? If we allow some readers to leave these scenes in one of two possible forms - affected and unaffected - it may mean that some interactions later in the story are illogical for one or other group.

No one has yet added an alternative for any option, i.e. another possible reality for a given scene or location. I'll soon be doing this re the source of the oil and I encourage others to create overlaid realities of this kind. We still don't know if we're dealing with fantasy, science fantasy or even science fiction and we might want to explore all of these avenues. The more ideas, the more exploration, the more adventure, the better!

All in all, an exciting couple of days.

Here's how to get involved.

As an explorer, read, choose and enjoy. Start here. As a blogger, continue the adventure at your blog. Write a scene with a choice for the reader to make. Link each option to a destination post if that post is already written. If you write a scene based on a choice at another post, comment at that post so the blogger can add a link to you.

If a scene exists, but you feel another is possible, write it. If we have multiple scenes for one option, all the better. Feel free to create alternative takes on the world.

Be bold!

If you've still no idea what's going on, read this

This is a really interesting idea, but I don't think I'm ready to join in while the A-Z is going on. Good luck!

It's rolling on seemingly without end in sight, and at 22 scenes really is only in the very early stages. It should be possible to expand it for as long as the blogs are here, so feel free to add a scene at any point. New ideas and even parallel scenes and universes are very welcome. Getting that elusive fifth blog involved would be great too!

@Chris - Yes, please, joins us! Post any time, later or now. Don't forget that your scene can also be an A-Z post...one of mine is.

Very. It has me thinking of time loops, and wondering what else might be possible...

Okay. We've gotten things settled enough with the transfer and our schedule is getting under control, so we'll try this out. Finally. Guess we better go back to the beginning and see what we can do...
